यो अ॑द्रि॒भित्प्र॑थम॒जा ऋ॒तावा॒ बृह॒स्पति॑राङ्गिर॒सो ह॒विष्मा॑न्। द्वि॒बर्ह॑ज्मा प्राघर्म॒सत्पि॒ता न॒ आ रोद॑सी वृष॒भो रो॑रवीति ॥१॥
yo adribhit prathamajā ṛtāvā bṛhaspatir āṅgiraso haviṣmān | dvibarhajmā prāgharmasat pitā na ā rodasī vṛṣabho roravīti ||
यः। अ॒द्रि॒ऽभित्। प्र॒थ॒म॒ऽजाः। ऋ॒तऽवा॑। बृह॒स्पतिः॑। आ॒ङ्गि॒र॒सः। ह॒विष्मा॑न्। द्वि॒बर्ह॑ऽज्मा। प्रा॒घ॒र्म॒ऽसत्। पि॒ता। नः॒। आ। रोद॑सी॒ इति॑। वृ॒ष॒भः। रो॒र॒वी॒ति॒ ॥१॥

अब तीन ऋचावाले तिहत्तरवें सूक्त का प्रारम्भ है, उसके प्रथम मन्त्र में राजा किसके तुल्य कैसा हो, इस विषय को कहते हैं ॥

अथ राजा किंवत् कीदृशः स्यादित्याह ॥
हे राजन् ! यः प्रथमजा अद्रिभिदृतावा बृहस्पतिराङ्गिरसो हविष्मान् द्विबर्हज्मा प्राघर्मसन्नः पितेव वृषभोऽद्रिभिद् रोदसी आ रोरवीति तद्वत्त्वं भव ॥१॥

How should a king be and like whom is told.
O king ! you should be like the sun, who is dispenser of clouds, first born, producer of water, sustainer of the earth and other worlds, born from (the combination of) air and electricity, partaker of the oblations, the support of the earth in which fire is kindled-born by rubbing of two sticks (Aranis), repository and diffuser of heat, causer of rain, who is like our father, makes great sound in the two worlds-the heaven and the earth, through lightning etc.
