प्र वः॒ स्पळ॑क्रन्त्सुवि॒ताय॑ दा॒वनेऽर्चा॑ दि॒वे प्र पृ॑थि॒व्या ऋ॒तं भ॑रे। उ॒क्षन्ते॒ अश्वा॒न्तरु॑षन्त॒ आ रजोऽनु॒ स्वं भा॒नुं श्र॑थयन्ते अर्ण॒वैः ॥१॥
pra vaḥ spaḻ akran suvitāya dāvane rcā dive pra pṛthivyā ṛtam bhare | ukṣante aśvān taruṣanta ā rajo nu svam bhānuṁ śrathayante arṇavaiḥ ||

अब आठ ऋचावाले उनसठवें सूक्त का प्रारम्भ है, उसके प्रथम मन्त्र में विद्वद्गुणों को कहते हैं ॥

अथ विद्वद्गुणानाह ॥
हे विद्वांसो ! ये सुविताय दावने दिवे पृथिव्यै वो भर ऋतं प्राक्रन्नश्वानुक्षन्ते तरुषन्ते रजोऽनु स्वं भानुं चार्णवैः प्राश्रथयन्ते तान् यूयं सत्कुरुत। हे राजन् स्पट् ! त्वमेतान् सततमर्चा ॥१॥

The attributes of the enlightened persons are told.
O learned persons! honour those who perform truthful deeds for the welfare of the (poor and Ed. wealthy. and liberal donor for a man designing (planning. Ed.) the welfare of all, for the firmament and earth in a dealing that supports all. Honour those who make proper use of the impetuous fire, electricity and other articles and move quickly, who make their own splendour some what slack by the illustration of the oceans or rivers. O king! being the destroyer of the foes and touching lovingly the friends, honour good persons constantly.
