को ना॑नाम॒ वच॑सा सो॒म्याय॑ मना॒युर्वा॑ भवति॒ वस्त॑ उ॒स्राः। क इन्द्र॑स्य॒ युज्यं॒ कः स॑खि॒त्वं को भ्रा॒त्रं व॑ष्टि क॒वये॒ क ऊ॒ती ॥२॥
ko nānāma vacasā somyāya manāyur vā bhavati vasta usrāḥ | ka indrasya yujyaṁ kaḥ sakhitvaṁ ko bhrātraṁ vaṣṭi kavaye ka ūtī ||
कः। न॒ना॒म॒। वच॑सा। सो॒म्याय॑। म॒ना॒युः। वा॒। भ॒व॒ति॒। वस्ते॑। उ॒स्राः। कः। इन्द्र॑स्य। युज्य॑म्। कः। सखि॒ऽत्वम्। कः। भ्रा॒त्रम्। व॒ष्टि॒। क॒वये॑। कः। ऊ॒ती ॥२॥

अब राजकर्त्तव्यविषय को अगले मन्त्र में कहते हैं ॥

अथ राजकर्त्तव्यविषयमाह ॥
हे विद्वांसः ! को वचसा सोम्याय नानाम को वा वचसा सोम्याय मनायुर्भवति क उस्रा इव सर्वान् गुणैर्वस्ते क इन्द्रस्य युज्यं सखित्वं को वा कवय ऊती भ्रात्रं वष्टीत्युत्तरं ब्रूत ॥२॥

The duties of a king are dealt with in the form of questions.
O learned persons ! who bows with his humble words before a person bringing about the prosperity (of a State). And who seeks excuses for the desire of acquiring knowledge be fore him? Who desires to cover all with noble virtues like the rays of the sun? Who desires sincere friendship with God-the Lord of the world? And who desires to establish brotherhood with a wiseman with his protective actions.
