तत्सूर्य॑स्य देव॒त्वं तन्म॑हि॒त्वं म॒ध्या कर्तो॒र्वित॑तं॒ सं ज॑भार। य॒देदयु॑क्त ह॒रित॑: स॒धस्था॒दाद्रात्री॒ वास॑स्तनुते सि॒मस्मै॑ ॥
tat sūryasya devatvaṁ tan mahitvam madhyā kartor vitataṁ saṁ jabhāra | yaded ayukta haritaḥ sadhasthād ād rātrī vāsas tanute simasmai ||

हे मनुष्या यदा तत् सूर्यस्य मध्या विततं सत् ब्रह्मैतस्य देवत्वं महित्वं कर्त्तोः सञ्जभार प्रलयसमये संहरति आत् यदा सृष्टिं करोति तदा सूर्यमयुक्तोत्पाद्य कक्षायां स्थापयति, सूर्यः सधस्थाद्धरितः किरणैर्व्याप्य सिमस्मै वासस्तनुते, यस्य तत्वाद्रात्री जायते तदिदेव ब्रह्म यूयमुपाध्वं तेदव जगत्कर्त्तृ विजानीत ॥ ४ ॥

The functions of the sun are taught further in the fourth Mantra.
O men ! God who is within the sun withdraws the divinity, majesty and work of the solar world, at the time of dissolution. When (God) creates the universe, He having generated establishes the sun in his axis. He pervades the directions with his rays from the same place and clothes the whole world (gives light and shelter). It is by God's ordained law that the night extends the veiling darkness over all after the sunset. You must adore only that one God and know Him to be the Creator of the world.
