फिर उषा के प्रसङ्ग से स्त्रीविषय को अगले मन्त्र में कहा है ।
पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - हे (उषः) उषा के वर्त्तमान विदुषी स्त्रि ! (यावयद्द्वेषाः) जिसने द्वेषयुक्त कर्म दूर किये (ऋतपाः) सत्य की रक्षक (ऋतेजाः) सत्य व्यवहार में प्रसिद्ध (सुम्नावरी) जिसमें प्रशंसित सुख विद्यमान वा (सुमङ्गलीः) जिसमें सुन्दर मङ्गल होते उन (सूनृताः) वेदादि सत्यशास्त्रों की सिद्धान्तवाणियों को (ईरयन्ती) शीघ्र प्रेरणा करती हुई (श्रेष्ठतमा) अतिशय उत्तम गुण, कर्म और स्वभाव से युक्त (देववीतिम्) विद्वानों की विशेष नीति को (बिभ्रती) धारण करती हुई तूं (इह) यहाँ (अद्य) आज (व्युच्छ) दुःख को दूर कर ॥ १२ ॥
भावार्थभाषाः - इस मन्त्र में वाचकलुप्तोपमालङ्कार है। जैसे प्रभात वेला अन्धकार का निवारण, प्रकाश का प्रादुर्भाव करा, धार्मिकों को सुखी और चोरादि को पीड़ित करके सब प्राणियों को आनन्दित करती है, वैसे ही विद्या, धर्म, प्रकाशवती शमादि गुणों से युक्त, विदुषी, उत्तम स्त्री अपने पतियों से सन्तानोत्पत्ति करके अच्छी शिक्षा से अविद्यान्धकार को छुड़ा विद्यारूप सूर्य को प्राप्त करा कुल को सुभूषित करें ॥ १२ ॥

श्रेष्ठतमा उषा
पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - १. यह उषा (यावयत् द्वेषाः) = सब प्रकार के द्वेषों को हमसे पृथक् करनेवाली है । शान्त उषाकाल की प्रेरणा हमें शान्ति का पाठ पढ़ाती है - द्वेष की वृत्तियाँ हमसे दूर होती हैं । (ऋतपाः) = यह ऋत का पालन करनेवाली है । उषा हमारे जीवनों में ऋत का रक्षण करती है । वस्तुतः (ऋतेजाः) = इसका तो प्रादुर्भाव ही ऋत के लिए हुआ है । उषा होने पर ऋत , अर्थात् यज्ञों का प्रवर्तन होता है । २. (सुम्नावरी) = यह उषा (सुम्नो) = प्रभु के स्तोत्रों - [Hymns] - वाली है । इस समय ही प्रभुभक्तों के मुखों से प्रभु के स्तोत्रों का उच्चारण होता है । (सूनृताः ईरयन्ती) = यह सूनृत वाणियों को प्रेरित करती हुई उषा (सुमङ्गली) = उत्तम मङ्गलवाणियों का ही हमसे उच्चारण कराती है । ३. हे (उषः) = उषा (देववीतिम्) = देवों के प्रति गमन को [वी गतौ] , अर्थात् देवों के साथ सम्पर्क को (बिभ्रती) = धारण करती हुई तू (इह) = हमारे जीवनों में (अद्य) = आज (श्रेष्ठतमा) = अत्यन्त प्रशस्त रूपवाली होकर (व्युच्छ) = उदित हो - अन्धकार को दूर करनेवाली हो ।
भावार्थभाषाः - भावार्थ - उषा हमें “निर्द्वेषता , ऋत के पालन , प्रभु - स्तवन , सुनृता - सुमङ्गली वाणियों के उच्चारण तथा देव - सम्पर्क” की प्रेरणा देनेवाली हो । इस प्रकार यह हमारे लिए श्रेष्ठतमा हो ।

भावार्थभाषाः - अत्र वाचकलुप्तोपमालङ्कारः। यथोषास्तमो विवार्य प्रकाशं प्रादुर्भाव्य धार्मिकान् सुखयित्वा चोरादीन् पीडयित्वा सर्वान् प्राणिन आह्लादयति तथैव विद्याधर्मप्रकाशवत्यः शमादिगुणान्विता विदुष्यस्सत्स्त्रियः स्वपतिभ्योऽपत्यानि कृत्वा सुशिक्षया विद्यान्धकारं निवार्य्य विद्यार्कं प्रापय्य कुलं सुभूषयेयुः ॥ १२ ॥

The attributes of a good lady are taught by the illustration of the dawn in the 12th Mantra.
अन्वय:
O learned lady shining like the dawn, you who are remover of all hostility and animosity, guardian of truth, manifested in truth, giver of happiness, most auspicious, utterer of the true and pleasant words of the teachings of the Vedas, most excellent bearing the policy or good conduct of scholars destroy all miseries to-day.
पदार्थान्वयभाषाः - (यवायद् द्वेषाः) यावयन्तिदूरिकृतानि द्वेस्षान्सि-अप्रियकर्माणि यया सा
= Who has removed all hostile acts and animosity.
(देववीतिम्) विदुषाम विर्ति विशिष्टांनितिम् ।
= The good policy of learned persons.
भावार्थभाषाः - As the dawn gladdens all living beings by dispelling darkness, by manifesting light. giving delight to all righteous persons and pain to thieves and other wicked persons, in the same manner, noble learned wives full of the light of Vidya (Knowledge) and Dharma (righteousness) and endowed with peace and other Virtues give birth to good children by Union with the husbands and adorn their family by dispelling the darkness of ignorance with the spread of good education and by causing the rise of the sun of knowledge.
टिप्पणी: Shri Sayanacharya, Prof. Wilson, Griffith and other translators have taken the word उषा: (Ushas) only in the sense of the dawn, while as Rishi Dayananda Sarasvati has taken it in the sense of a learned lady like the dawn who dispels darkness of ignorance and gives happiness to her husband and others. The adjectives used in this and other mantras like यावयद् द्वेषाः, ऋतपा, ऋतेजा: सूनृता ईरयन्ती, सुमङ्गली: etc. bear out his interpretation. They are not applicable to the natural dawn and Sayanacharya and others had to give a fat-fetched meaning to these words qualifying the dawn. For instance the word यावयत् द्वेषाः which clearly means-free from or removing hostility or animosity, has been interpreted by Sayanacharya as यावयन्ति अस्मत्तः पृथक् कृतानि द्वेषांसि द्वेष्टृणि राक्षसादिनि यया सा i.e. she who has kept away Rakshasas etc. This is evidently a farfetched interpretation. Prof. Wilson has translated it as "The beings hostile to acts of devotion now withdraw, and has added in the foot note "Rakshasas and other malignant spirits, vanish with the dawn Griffith has translated it as “foe-Chaser". Evil spirits vanish when Dawn appears, translating सुमङ्गली: as सोमङ्गल्योपेता पत्या कदाचिदपि न वियुक्तेत्यर्थ: Wilson translates it as the enjoyer of felicity and Griffith as 'Auspicious'. It is clear that the adjective सुमङ्गली: even as interpreted by Sayanacharya is applicable more to a learned married lady than to the natural dawn. Rishi Dayananda Sarasvati's interpretation is therefore quite authentic on the Brahmana passages like उषा: पत्नी: (शत० ६. १. ३ ). Shri Kapali Shastri has tried to give a spiritual interpretation to this and other mantras of the hymn taking उषा: to be the Divine Dawn of illumination. He has interpreted सुनृता ईरयन्ती शोभनास्सत्यावाचः प्रेरयन्ती i.e. impelling pleasant and true speech which is better than Sayanacharya's farfetched interpretation as पशु पक्षिमृगादीनां वचांसि ईरयन्ती प्रेरयन्ती उत्पादयन्ती । This adjective is clearly applicable to a learned lady, uttering true and sweet words.
